The Staff Accountant, General Ledger will be a key member of Planet Fitness’s accounting team and will be responsible for daily and monthly accounting functions necessary to support our month-end, quarterly, and year-end close. The Staff Accountant, General Ledger will work within the accounting department, assisting in transactional accounting and certain administrator functions, preparing & posting journal entries, as well as preparing GL reconciliations and performing account variance analysis. The Staff Accountant, General Ledger will work under supervision in numerous areas including, but not limited to, cash, fixed assets, revenue accounting and lease accounting.


  • Assist with the month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting close process and ensure proper application of US GAAP.
  • Prepare journal entries for entry into the general ledger system monthly by collecting necessary data, analyzing, and preparing audit trail support for the journal entries.
  • Complete balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring proper support is attached
  • Prepare journal entries and analyses of equipment revenue and cost of goods sold
  • Assist with various accounting entries related to lease accounting and fixed assets
  • Perform accounting data entry tasks and complete other accounting clerical tasks to provide support to the finance team.
  • Perform SOX controls; maintain evidence of controls for areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with ad hoc analysis and special assignments in a timely manner, as necessary.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience or exposure to accounting
  • Skilled in MS Office Suite
  • Proficient in Excel and using advanced formulas, including V-Lookups and Pivot Tables
  • Highly organized and effective at managing own deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, internally and externally
  • Dedicated learner with a natural curiosity for consistent growth
  • Exhibits comfort, ease, and flexibility working in an extremely fast-paced ever-changing, deadline-driven environment
