Overview

The Sr. Manager, Internal Communications will be responsible for leading the strategic development and execution of all internal communications initiatives to inform and inspire Planet Fitness’ key stakeholders, including Planet Fitness Club Support Center (CSC) team members, field-based team members, and franchisees. This role will provide critical communications counsel and support to the Executive Leadership Team including the Chief Executive Officer, while providing strategic internal communications counsel to key stakeholders including team members, franchisees, and club managers.

 

This role will oversee the strategy and execution of all Company communications which includes messages from the CEO and other executives, leading and managing the content for all franchisee conferences and quarterly franchisee and CSC Town Halls as well as conferences and events, and executing internal newsletters to team members, franchisees, and clubs, along with other internal Company announcements. The Sr. Manager, Internal Communications will also work collaboratively with the HR team to lead PF’s employer brand communications externally on third-party employer sites, such as LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Indeed, and more.

 

This role is based out of our Hampton, NH office following our hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, develop, and execute Planet Fitness’ internal communications strategy aimed at engaging and inspiring 300+ CSC team members, approximately 100 franchise groups, numerous vendors, and club managers across 2,700+ locations.
  • Serve as the trusted internal communications partner to the CEO, which includes drafting messages to team members and franchisees and preparing talking points, speeches, and presentations to drive trust, engagement, and confidence
  • Leverage internal communications channels to drive Company goals and continues to position Planet Fitness as the leader in fitness, which includes the execution of weekly newsletters to team members and franchisees.
  • Serve as the strategic internal communications liaison for all business units across the Company, executive team, and Franchisee leadership organization.
  • Attend all franchisee leadership board meetings and committee meetings as the critical communications liaison between the CSC and franchisees.
  • Work cross-functionally to understand Company initiatives and strategically and effectively communicate brand priorities to multiple stakeholders to drive brand alignment.
  • Manage all content, talking points, and presentations for quarterly/ad hoc CSC and franchisee Town Halls to drive confidence and engagement with the Company’s strategy.
  • Oversee, in partnership with the events team, the execution of annual franchisee events including owning all executive presentations, content, and external speakers.
  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of communications while leveraging enhanced technology to effectively communicate with key stakeholders to drive engagement.
  • Identify effective ways to disseminate ongoing club-level operational and marketing information to club managers and drive alignment and execution.
  • Assist in formulating the Company’s internal response to crisis situations and execute communications accordingly to ensure internal audiences are informed and aware of any business impacts while collaborating with department leaders and the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Seek positive internal story-telling opportunities to increase employee/franchisee satisfaction and brand confidence, helping to drive company culture forward.
  • Enhance internal advocacy and position Planet Fitness as an employer-of-choice by developing PF’s employer brand and showcasing the CSC as a great place to work with attractive benefits, valuable internal programs, a strong culture, and an exciting, high-growth brand.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Communications, English, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
  • 7+ years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, with a proven track record of managing multiple communication channels
  • Experience working in a large corporate environment; franchising experience a plus
  • Experience and comfort working with executive level leaders
  • Deadline-driven with experience managing cross-functional projects and timelines
  • Familiarity with numerous technology platforms/tools including Sales Force Marketing Cloud, OneDrive, Zoom, PowerPoint, SharePoint, intranets, and more
  • Ability to synthesize information from executive leadership and develop talking points, presentations, messages, and more for various internal audiences
  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to present insights
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven background managing inter-agency relationships
  • Proven copywriting, editing and proofreading skills, as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees
  • Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and organized with an exceptional ability to establish priorities and objectives
  • Excellent presentation and verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, internally and externally
  • Creative, progressive, thought leadership with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
