Overview

The Email Marketing Specialist is responsible for enhancing the overall customer journey through CRM-driven email strategies. The Specialist coordinates, implements and optimizes best-in-class CRM marketing campaigns (Email, SMS, Push and In-App Messages) aligned to Planet Fitness’ annual marketing calendar, brand initiatives and organizational goals.  

 

The Email Marketing Specialist has a “can do” attitude and demonstrates the ability to manage a variety of marketing campaigns with a keen attention to detail. The Specialist will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to instill best practices, ensure brand consistency, and optimize performance of Planet Fitness email campaigns.

 

This role will develop and execute Email, SMS, Push, In-App messaging marketing campaigns, including promotional campaigns aligned with marketing initiatives and seasonal promotions. The Specialist will contribute to copy-writing, email design, campaign automation, HTML/Data extension support, and light analytics.  

Responsibilities

CRM Campaign Implementation:

  • Coordinates and implements email marketing campaigns tailored to specific customer segments and company initiatives and taken from creative design through deployment. This includes managing the process to execute on time and maintaining the highest quality assurance.
  • Some writing and designing emails such as newsletters, promotional messages, welcome emails, and surveys will occur.  

Content Optimization:

  • Monitors email content and crafts attention-grabbing subject lines to boost open and engagement rates.
  • Develops a knowledge base of email best practices, reporting metrics, and tutorials; and makes recommendations.  

Email List Management:

  • Compiles and maintains targeted email lists, ensuring data is up to date, and maintaining opt-in practices.

A/B Testing:

  • Supports A/B testing to assist in analyzing the effectiveness of email components such as design, messaging, and timing. 

Performance Metrics Monitoring:

  • Tracks campaign performance metrics like conversion rates, deliverability, and subscriber engagement.
  • Reviews and provides reports to teams on email marketing campaign performance metrics as needed.  

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborates with the CRM team and key stakeholders (brand, local and analytics) to align email campaigns with overall marketing objectives, brand standards and broader business initiatives.   

Compliance Assurance:

  • Remains current on email best practices and stays informed about GDPR, CCPA, CASL and CAN-SPAM, and other regulations affecting email marketing efforts as well as honoring customer subscription preferences.  

Automation Implementation:

  • Uses marketing automation tools to streamline workflows and improve efficiency. 

Deliverability Improvements:

  • Optimizes campaigns to avoid spam filters and ensure emails reach the target audience. 

Quality Assurance:

  • Reviews email renderings across prioritized platforms and devices during the development process to ensure email quality and clarity.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in email marketing or digital marketing roles, focused on email
  • Technical proficiency in email marketing platforms (e.g. Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Mailchimp,), CRM software, and automation software and tools
  • Significant experience with AMPscript, Dynamic Code Blocks, and SQL with SFMC  or mastery of AMPscript and Dynamic Code Blocks, and SQL within SFMC
  • Proven experience building emails and lists as well as deployment in SFMC Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including Content Builder, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, and Mobile Studio
  • Certifications in email marketing best practices or platforms like HubSpot are a plus
  • Analytical minded with the ability to interpret data, monitor metrics, and use actionable insights to improve campaigns. Knowledgeable in Google analytics tools
  • Knowledge of graphic design, HTML, and CSS for creating polished, functional emails. Automating emails, and basic coding tasks. Adobe Creative Suites (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator) and Figma, strongly preferred. Experience with LiveClicker and /or Moveable Ink 
  • Project management skills with a strong ability to manage timelines, deadlines, and workflows efficiently. Ability to manage a content calendar
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and adapt to challenges in email marketing strategy. Creative problem solving and critical thinking.  Dedicated learner with a natural curiosity for consistent growth  
  • Strong attention to detail, efficient, and organized with an ability to establish priorities and objectives
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
